1:21 They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught. 1:22 They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 1:23 Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, 1:24 and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” 1:25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” 1:26 And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. 1:27 They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching–with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 1:28 At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

Astounded at his teaching
He taught, as one who had authority

Unclean Spirit: “What do you have to do with us?”
What does one of our own have to say to us who know the sins

Have you come to change us? Take our power? Our control?
To destroy us?

Affirmation: You are the holy one. (Evil One’s are not suppose to tell the Good News, the disciples are suppose to tell it)

Be silent, and come out, kicking and screaming, even crying.
Taking away the control of pride, greed, fear, sin sickness

All were amazed, and astonished, What is this?
A NEW TEACHING, and WITH AUTHORITY!

Capernaum Idol : “Tonight, Jesus is the new famous star”
Mark doesn’t tell of wise men seeing a star, Jesus is the star.

UNCLEAN SPIRIT:
Pride: “It’s mine” “I’m in-charge” “It is my decision”
“We have always done it that way” “I’m not worthy”
Greed,
Fear of not being in control
Power to oppress

By God’s Authority:
EVIL be silent
PRIDE: close your eyes GREED: let it go
FEAR: Jump out of oppressed POWER: Give it up

Authority: more than permission, power over, dominion of

EVIL, you do not rule my life, my past, my present, my future
EVIL I’m not to proud to admit fault and failure
EVIL I am not the winner. I am not in control
EVIL I am afraid to die. I am afraid of the truth. I’m scared of the light.
EVIL You have no power over me, because I am set free in Christ, My trust is in the Lord, My heart is not your, nor mine
EVIL, Be Silent… It God’s time to speak through me!
